EIG (Europe India Gateway)
HIGHRED SEA — Traverses the Bab-el-Mandeb strait area. Cable repair vessels have been unable to safely operate in the Red Sea since Q4 2023 due to Houthi activity.
EIG (Europe India Gateway) is a 15,000km subsea cable system connecting London to Singapore via Marseille, Jeddah, Mumbai and Sri Lanka. Operated by a consortium including Saudi Telecom STC (AS25019), Tata Communications (AS6453) and Bharti Airtel (AS24560), EIG routes through the Red Sea corridor and is subject to the same Houthi-related disruption risk as SEA-ME-WE 5. CableAlert monitors EIG through BGP telemetry on the Saudi Telecom and Tata ASNs, corroborated by RIPE Atlas latency measurements on the London-Mumbai and Mumbai-Singapore corridor segments.
